The Private School Market Analysis Project (PSMAP) is designed to use demographic and school data to understand, analyze, model, and visualize trends in private school to assist mission-driven schools to identify how to market to and enroll students that fit the school’s given purpose.

Phase I: Massachusetts

This interactive visualization shows all private schools in Massachusetts alongside demographic and market data by ZIP code. This is the first phase of what I hope to be a robust project that takes a number of demographic and school-based features impacting private school enrollment for statistical analysis and predictive modeling. When complete, it should provide school leaders valuable information to identify mission-aligned families that fit their given school’s purpose.

This takes data from the U.S. Census, the Private School Universe Survey (PSS), and regional and national independent school associations to geographically place schools on a map that demonstrates the percent of students from each ZIP code to attend a private school in 2024 (the last year of publicly available census data). In time, this project will use a wide-ranging database of varied demographic, school, and other data to model how mission-driven schools can attract families aligned with their purpose.
